Passerby helps avert Major Disaster.

Early on Sunday morning April 26th, an alert early morning walker noticed smoke coming from the front of the Varsity Community Association building and alerted Emergency Services.    Fortunately, Calgary Fire Department Station #17 is very near.  First responders were on site quickly and able to contain the small electrical fire in short order.   Physical damage to the building is relatively minor and contained to the older section of the building.   However, significant smoke penetration into the entire building requires significant restoration and cleaning work that will take several weeks to complete.   Reconstruction on the affected area will commence when restoration and abatement work is completed.   Cause of the fire was believed to be an electrical short in an old drain heat tape.  Thanks to Calgary Fire Department for their great work in limiting damage and to our neighbor for calling 911.
